What to look for in a POS system for a Bahrain shop, restaurant, pharmacy or laundry, and how we set it up around your counter.

Receipts, invoices and summaries designed to support Bahrain's 10% VAT invoicing requirements.

Three-decimal BHD

Prices, discounts and rounding handled in fils to keep end-of-day totals accurate.

Bilingual screens and printed receipts, tested with your printers before go-live.

Branch-level control

Configured for your trade

Specific workflows for retail, restaurants, pharmacies and laundries rather than one generic screen.

Choosing a POS system in Bahrain is not only about ringing up sales. The system shapes how your staff handle VAT, how stock moves between branches, how you print receipts for Arabic-speaking customers and how quickly you can see yesterday's takings. This guide covers the local points worth checking before you commit. For details of our POS offering, visit our POS Systems service.

Five things to check in a POS for Bahrain

1. VAT on every receipt

Businesses registered for VAT need receipts and invoices that show tax correctly. A POS should handle VAT-inclusive and VAT-exclusive prices, exempt or zero-rated items where relevant, and produce VAT summaries your accountant can use. Our POS solutions are designed to support Bahrain's 10% VAT invoicing requirements, but we always recommend confirming your obligations with a qualified tax advisor.

2. BHD with three decimals

The Bahraini dinar uses fils, so prices, discounts and rounding need three decimal places. Some imported systems built for two-decimal currencies cause small rounding differences that add up in end-of-day reconciliation.

3. Arabic on screen and on paper

Staff should be able to use the interface in the language they are comfortable with, and receipts should print product names and store details in Arabic, English or both. This depends on both the software and the printer, so test it before buying hardware.

4. Multi-branch control

If you run more than one location, for example a café in Juffair and another in Budaiya, look for central product and price management, branch-level stock, transfers between branches and reports that compare locations. Also check how the system behaves if an internet connection drops during service.

5. How it connects to the rest of the business

A POS rarely works alone. Consider whether it needs to connect with inventory, accounting, an online store, delivery orders or a loyalty programme. Card payments usually run through bank-provided terminals, and any integration is subject to provider and client account availability.

POS setups by business type

  • Retail and trading: barcode scanning, variants such as size and colour, supplier purchasing and stock alerts. See retail.
  • Restaurants and cafés: table and takeaway orders, modifiers, kitchen printing and shift reports. See restaurants and cafés.
  • Pharmacies: batch and expiry tracking, fast search by trade or generic name and controlled user permissions. See pharmacies.
  • Laundries: garment tagging, ready dates, pickup and delivery tracking and customer notifications. See laundry.

Getting started without disrupting the counter

We begin by looking at how your counter works today, what hardware you already own and which reports you need. Products, prices and opening stock can usually be imported from spreadsheets. We then configure the system, test receipts and VAT output with you, train cashiers and supervisors, and plan go-live for a quieter trading period where possible.

Costs depend on the number of branches, terminals, integrations and whether customisation is needed, so we provide a quotation after understanding your setup.

Frequently asked questions

The main factors are the number of branches and terminals, the hardware you need or already own, how many products and variants must be set up, integrations with accounting or online ordering, and any custom workflows. Ongoing support and hosting also play a part. We prepare a quotation once we understand your setup.

Yes, receipts can show product names, store details and footer messages in Arabic, English or both. Arabic printing depends on the receipt printer as well as the software, so we test your printers, or recommend compatible ones, before go-live.

Most businesses in Bahrain use a card terminal supplied by their bank, and the POS records the card payment alongside the sale. A direct link between the POS and the terminal, so the amount is sent automatically, is possible only where the bank or payment provider supports it, subject to provider and client account availability.

Your sales, product, stock and customer data belong to your business. Reports can be exported to spreadsheets, and a full data export can be arranged if you ever change systems. We recommend confirming data ownership and export terms in writing with any POS provider before you sign.

We train supervisors on quick checks such as printer, network and user issues, and provide a clear way to contact us by phone or WhatsApp for support. Response arrangements are agreed in your support plan. Planning backup procedures, such as a spare printer, also reduces disruption at the counter.
